October 29, 2022 - Flying to Martinsburg for Lunch

Today's mission on a beautiful flying Saturday was to fly to Martinsburg, West Virgina and have lunch at the Crosswinds Cafe, the on-field restaurant.  Mark was in Chuck's RV-7A and Nhu-An was flying with me.

I haven't been to Martinsburg Airport (KMRB)  -- also known as Eastern WV Regional Airport/Shepherd Field -- since the Citabria days.  Martinsburg is a towered airport since it is the home of Air National Guard C-17s.

I was last here in 2004 when I stopped in due to weather on the way to Oshkosh and had breakfast.  I don't remember it as being very fancy.  Obviously, they have built this nice FBO building since then.

A small museum in the front lobby.

The restaurant is upstairs.  Big windows let you look out over the ramp and the runway.  The food was good but like everywhere else, the restaurant is understaffed and can't find help.

Starting engines on the ramp.

Passing by a big T-6 than had just landed.  Like the Navy paint scheme.

Looking across the runway at the big C-17s.

Holding short, waiting for a C-17 to land.

Here he comes ....

That's a big plane.

The C-17 rolling out.
